How long does mobile windshield replacement take?
Many standard installations can be completed in roughly an hour, but the full appointment may take longer depending on the vehicle, weather, glass features and calibration requirements.
What happens during the appointment?
The technician confirms the replacement glass, options and condition of the surrounding body, moldings and sensors.
The damaged windshield is removed, the mounting surface is prepared and corrosion or unexpected damage is identified before new adhesive is applied.
The new windshield is positioned, secured and inspected for correct fit. Required moldings and connected components are restored.
If the vehicle uses windshield-mounted cameras, calibration may add time. The technician also explains when the vehicle can be driven safely.
What can make the service take longer?
- ADAS camera calibration or post-installation diagnostic checks
- Rain, extreme temperatures, wind or an unsuitable work area
- Complex trim, sensors, heated glass or special moldings
- Corrosion or damage around the windshield opening
- Removing and reinstalling accessories attached near the glass
Installation time is not the same as safe-drive-away time
Automotive urethane needs time to develop enough strength before the vehicle is driven. The safe-drive-away time depends on the specific adhesive, temperature, humidity and installation conditions. Follow the technician’s instruction even when the glass itself has already been installed.
How to avoid delays
Provide the VIN when possible so the correct glass and options can be matched before the appointment. Move the vehicle to a safe work area, remove valuables near the dashboard and tell the specialist about cameras, rain sensors, heating elements or prior body damage.
